Francois Renovates: Nursery Sneak Peek

It’s been 6 weeks of renovation and the nursery is nearly finished! Today I’ve got a little peek of the room for you and want to talk specifically about the art we chose because it’s one of my favorite things in the room and honestly probably the easiest things to execute.

Once the old ice damage was fixed,  the board & batten and wallcovering were up, it was time to think about art, and we worked with Framebridge to make it happen.  Framing is their specialty, which means they have it down to a science, from the ordering process, to the personal note tucked in with each framed piece, to including the hardware needed to hang your specific piece. It’s obvious there’s a lot of thought and love that goes into their craft.

See the progress we've made with this week's "Francois Renovates." We're talking about art selections in this nursery sneak peek!

DIY Snowball Pillow

Ah, behold the latent design power of the throw pillow. AKA soft little squares (or in this case, circles) of goodness that can single-handedly change the feeling or direction of a room, spark conversation, or soften an otherwise uninviting chair or nook. Yes folks, they’re magic when it comes to interior decor which is why they’re the easy answer to updating your space just enough to cure the restless, “I’m sick of my house” cabin fever that inevitably sets in this time of year.

Good Reminder DIY Notebook Cover

‘Tis that time of year when we’re busy making resolutions for the new year in an effort to make 2017 the best one yet. Did you guys make any goals? One of the things I really want to accomplish is being more present and less plugged into my iPhone. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a blogger, so emailing, Instagramming, Pinteresting, & Tweeting very much come with the territory. But with our first baby arriving in weeks, I want to make sure I can find a manageable balance between the two.

Add an inspiring phrase to your everyday notebook cover to help you achieve your new year resolution. Click for all the details! Continue Reading →

Francois Renovates: 2016 Home Projects (Before & After!)

A look back through the 2016 home projects we tackled this year. Click for the before & afters!

With a full year of home projects under our belts (and because I’m pregnant and unapologetically sentimental right now), I decided to take a look back through everything we’ve tackled in this house so far. Seeing it all rounded up in one place, I almost couldn’t believe how far we’ve come since closing in July of 2015. Though much of the main kitchen and the upstairs apartment kitchen renovations (we have an upstairs apartment that we rent out) were tackled at the end of 2015, finishing touches and the actual blog posts went up in 2016, so I decided to include these spaces as well. I’ve linked each before/after pairing back to the original post in case you want to see more or are looking for a product source. I hope you enjoy the walk back through this year’s home projects as much as I did!

4 DIY Favorites of Christmas Past

DIY Candles for that Impossible to Buy for Person

We all have peeps on our Christmas list that are HARD to buy for. When I’m stumped on what to get for someone, I often turn to candles. They’re beautiful, useful, you can make them right in your kitchen.

DIY Leather Wrapped Wall Vase

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for wall vases. Exhibit A. Exhibit B. I just really freaking love bringing the organic lines of flowers and branches onto the wall, and I keep finding new ways of creating them. So I thought I’d share the latest which includes permanently attaching a picture hanger to the back of a flat-sided vase using a mouldable glue that turns to plastic as it hardens–I mean what will they think of next?! I also used a faux leather wrap to the conceal a chunk of flower foam at the bottom of the vase which helps keep branches somewhat in place. Take your bouquet from the table to the wall with this space-saving hack, and check out more on the vase in our murphy bed guest room reveal!
