Easy and tangible ways to hygge your home for the Holidays. Tap into the ideas I use in my own Christmas and Winter home décor.
Last month, I shared some festively Nordic ways to decorate for the holidays at Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine’s Holi-Go-Fabulous Event, with Kelly Kegans of MSPmag Home & Design and Lea Johnson of Creekwood Hill. A big part of Nordic decor is incorporating the Danish philosophy of Hygge, pronounced Hue-guh which is all about feathering your home with simple pleasures. Here are my favorite ways to bring the magic of Hygge into your home this holiday, winter, and beyond. Incorporate natural elements – Bring the Outdoors In
- Berry or evergreen branches in a vase.
- Potted bulbs – Amaryllis and paper whites
- Dried orange garland – string at windows or use as ornaments or gift toppers
Create a cozy environment – With the days getting shorter and shorter, candles are a wonderful way to create ambiance and celebrate light during the darkest time of year.
- Tray of candles on coffee table
- Evergreen table wreath
- Textiles- Think faux fur and chunky knit pillows and throws
Simplify décor
- Other than candles, which I sprinkle around like pixie dust, edit decor. Less is more when it comes to Scandinavian decor.
- Another great way to visually simplify is to stick to a limited color palette. Completely neutral, or neutral with an emerald, red or Chestnut color accent.

January 5, 2019 at 7:54 pmLove your ideas for holiday decor! I would say that these tips are very useful for winter home styling, not just for holidays. Candles and pixie dust create such a magical and soothing atmosphere, while cozy textiles (my personal favorites are gorgeous, warm rugs) add much-needed layers. Love the idea of neutral colors with emerald, red and chestnut accents.

January 14, 2019 at 3:03 amYour home is gorgeous. We just bought our first home and your style is our inspiration. I have been trying to find a rug like the one in your living room. Where did you buy this rug or where could I find something similar?
