Looking for a bedside reading lamp? Make this easy scissor arm wall lamp. In this post you’ll find a step by step guide for creating your own chic sconce! When Sylvia moved into a twin bed, we said sayonara to her rocking chair due to lack of space. Old homes. Tiny rooms. What are ya gonna do?! Without the chair, we now read bedtime books on her bed and needed a reading light. The analog scissor arm of this wall sconce feels playful, while the general concept of a reading light feels a bit ‘grown-up’. Sylvia loves that she can stretch and move the light on her own, and even turn it off from her bed. Ah, it’s the little things in life. Isn’t it friends? The scissor arm frame ($20 bucks!) and socket are from Amazon. The twisted fabric cord is from etsy. I found the shade thrifting and added a pleated floral fabric and yellow bias tape with hot glue. Down the road I’d like to add an on/off switch to the cord, but for now we’re keeping it basic! Let’s make this sconce, shall we? Supplies: Scissor Arm Lamp Frame Twisted Cloth Cord with Plug-in Light Socket – […]

I hope you had a wonderful Holiday surrounded by your favorite people! Ken and I most certainly did–I’m infinitely thankful for such extraordinary [loving, warm, supportive] people in our lives that we’re lucky enough to call our family and friends. As 2014 comes to a close, it’s fun to look back and analyze the blogging year, particularly, in terms of page views. I love looking at the individual posts stats to see which posts took hold and which ones faded to the background throughout the year. When I’m creating content for Francois et Moi, there are posts that I think will do really well over others. However, once they go live, I usually end up being wrong! It’s tough to predict, but attempting to understand it all is part of what makes blogging so much fun for me. Thanks for a great 1st full year, and your continued readership. You guys are my motivation! Here were Francois et Moi’s top posts this year as selected by you! I hope to create more fun, DIY projects like these in 2015: DIY Striped Drink Perch DIY Gilded Accordion Sconce [Make Your Own] Patterned Leggings DIY Danish Modern Coffee Table Is there something […]

Something I really wanted in our new place was a pair of sconces flanking our bed. Not only do I love their minimalist look, but they also don’t take up space on the nightstand. And when living in a small space every. inch. counts. There are several stunning options out there…and not a one of them fit our budget, so I took to Pinterest to figure out if there was a way I could make the sconces I was envisioning, but for less cash money. Finding inspiration in DIY sconces from Vintage Revival and Poppytalk, I used the accordion arm from Ikea’s Frack Mirror in combination with the lamp head from Target’s Wood Pole Scholar Desk Lamp (Just wait ’till you see what I have in mind for the base from this lamp–stay tuned!) And then I painted everything gold. Because, well, I heart gold. The best part? Each sconce came together for right around $20 bucks! Materials List: Ikea Frack Accordion Mirror – Use the accordion arm only. Target Stick Table Lamp – Loosen the screw on the lamp head to slide it off the wood pole base. Metallic gold spray paint Painter’s tape Plastic bag Drop cloth 5″ of elastic (1″ to 1-1/2″ thick) Gorilla Glue (Gorilla Glue expands as it dries, […]
