As I mentioned in our kid-friendly living room makeover, we switched out our beloved blanket ladder for a gallery wall + a place to park large toys. So, over Sylvie’s naptime a few weeks ago, I hung the gallery wall, and shared the process on my IGTV (the new Instagram component that allows you to share longer videos). Once I got everything hung, it dawned on me just how affordable the art was. Each piece was under $30. Affordable is great, but I think you also have to really love the art you hang in your home, right? Otherwise what’s the point? Your walls might as well be empty. So scroll down for some of the background on these 4 pieces. The Art: Printable Matisse Sketches – Albeit, this is a print. Matisse’s visage sketches are some of my absolute favorite pieces of art, so to me, this print holds a lot of meaning. Victoria Bradley Studio Figure (similar) – Victoria Bradley has a downright gift for capturing the female form with her pen and paint brush, and let’s be honest, no gallery wall is complete unless it includes a nude. She’s one figure artist you’ll definitely want to keep […]

Natural woven window shades are the freakin’ cat’s meow right now. From the moment we moved in last October, I knew their warm texture was the perfect solution for our white-walled home, but it wasn’t until 9-months later that we actually installed them. Why? It wasn’t that I got DIY burnout and didn’t get around to it. No, I’d been pining over these bad boys the entire year. It all came down to numbers. You see, our old 1930’s home has unusually sized windows in some areas. They’re not the standard sizes that off-the-shelf shades are made in, and we weren’t in a position to spring for custom-sized shades–though I was REALLY tempted, and actually had them measured and quoted, but $2000 later I was like…”ohhh, okay no.” And that was even during their 1/2 off and free installation sale. So there I was trying to figure out what the heck to do, when it finally dawned on me to try cutting the ready-made shades down to size with a mitre saw. Afterall, the shades for the unusually sized windows only cost around $14, so it wouldn’t be pocket-book-devastating, if it was a total fail. Though I may have been […]

One of the ways I shrug off those I’m-over-winter blues this time of year is by switching out small accessories in my home, like pillows, to help it feel a bit less wintery. So today I want to share these easy little tufted pillows I created for Sugar and Cloth which are perfect for infusing spring vibes into the home. Usually when I hear the word ‘tufting’ I run the other way because the word tufting just sounds complex, right? Well never fear, though these pillows are technically tufted, they each just have one giant tuft in the middle so they’re actually ridiculously easy. Yay! And there’s also no zipper, so Double Yay! Head over and say hi to Ashley for the tutorial. Tomorrow I’ll be sharing tips for choosing the right inserts for throw pillows, so make sure to check back! DIY Button Tufted Pillows Looking for more DIY pillow inspiration?
