You know those super cool vintage message boards you’re seeing across Instagram right now? I REEEALLY wanted one for my place, but the trouble was I couldn’t find one thrifting, and I couldn’t afford the price tag of a new one, so I decided to pitch a DIY version to Apartment Therapy for my monthly tutorial. They were on board with the idea, so I got to work right away, because (to be honest) I pitched the project without any idea how I was actually going to make it. Yikes! That’s not how I normally roll, but something told me I could figure this one out. Plus, I wanted one so bad, I’d make sure I figured it out. There was only one tutorial out there on the subject, and it was by an engineering student who very precisely CNC routed a wood slotted skeleton frame to tuck the felt fabric in to + he built his own finished frame. Though it was a great tutorial, it involved far too much math and industrial equipment for my liking, and I knew there had to be a way to make one without all the industrial equipment. Backyard ReDesign: Before & After Reveal

On the heels of the backyard inspiration I shared earlier this week, today is the final reveal of our backyard redesign! As you guys know, we partnered up with Apartment Therapy for a Renovation Diary this Spring, and you can read all about it here. I’m well aware that everybody loves a good ‘before & after’ (including me!), so let’s just cut to the chase. Check out the backyard as it were when we purchased the home. Backyard Design Inspiration

At long last! I’m sharing the details of the backyard redesign we did with Apartment Therapy. And today I’m starting with the inspiration that motivated the design. Afterall, that’s where every project begins: with an idea or notion about how a space could be better. Oui? To be 1 billion percent honest, we had a hard time finding visual imagery that captured the backyard design inspiration what we were envisioning, but eventually found a few gems that got the juices flowing! Claire & Jeffrey’s Inspiring Kitchen Reno

Since Ken and I started seriously talking about buying/renovating in Minneapolis, I’ve developed a heightened sense of awareness for home renovation stories, especially those with impeccable style! In April 2013, fellow Minneapolites, Claire and Jeffrey shared their DIY Kitchen renovation with Apartment Therapy, and not only was I brimming with Minneapolis pride to see these two local creatives featured on one of the original lifestyle and design blogs, but also super inspired by their kitchen’s massive overhaul and transformation. Check out their entire reno process, budget! and more before/after shots here! Before: After: I love that they committed to saving and restoring many of the home’s original elements. The hardwood floors, mouldings, and backdoor are beautiful details that nod to the home’s history while the modern details keep it feeling light and fresh. My favorite details are the Tandem Made live edge walnut shelf, the DIY concrete countertops, and the Schoolhouse Electric Sconce (shown in the first image).
