Choosing a bassinet can be overwhelming! Read about my (unsponsored) experience using the Snoo Bassinet with my 2nd child. Let’s talk about bassinets. With the recall of the Rock n Play (which is what we used the first time around) I wasn’t sure what to do for our second. I spent an embarrassing amount of time researching your suggestions last summer and actually had a lot of anxiety around choosing one because I didn’t want make a wrong decision. But the truth is every baby is different, so all you can do is pick one, try it and if it’s not working, try something else. We decided to try the Snoo, and at first, Leo didn’t seem to like it. We put it away for a week, gave it another shot, and it has been great ever since. The Snoo senses when he’s fussing and turns on soothing noises + swaying motion. It ACTUALLY calms him down and puts him back to sleep—much of the time. Good to Know There’s something called the ‘Motion Limiter‘ setting that’s typically used for preemies and newborns, when less motion is needed to soothe. I’d recommend turning this feature on right away. Without it, […]

Minimal meets classic in this modern nursery. Come take a look around and see how this last minute baby’s room came together! With the projects that stacked up this summer/fall from taking over our duplex’s apartment unit upstairs, our son, who is due on Saturday, (Nov. 2020), his room has been inadvertently left to the last minute. From what you’re telling me on Instagram though, this isn’t unusual for a 2nd kid. So thank you for curbing my mom guilt. LOL. So much of this room is hand-me-downs from Sylvia, and generally from around the house and storage. This rug has lived in our living room for the last 7 years. It’s only 6.5′ x 8.5′ in size, so it always was a little too small for the living room, thought I love it so much it didn’t really bother me. I was excited though to move it into the babe’s room as I think the deep tones, and loud pattern are really grounding in here–not to mention a much better fit, size-wise. This room used to be Ken and my room (this little house of ours doesn’t have a master, but it does–thankfully–have three bedrooms all on one floor. […]

Not sure which bassinet to go with? We’ve polled our audience and have the top ten highly recommended bassinets from fellow mamas. About a month ago, I asked for your input in IG stories: what bassinet did you use with your babies and would you recommend it to fellow mamas? The first time around, we used a Fisher-Price Rock n Play which are now recalled, so we’re looking for suggestions for baby #2. Sleep is SO important for both baby and parents, and so I wanted to hear the tried-and-true bassinets that worked great for you guys. Your response was overwhelming! Thank you everyone who shared their recommendations. Without further ado, here are your favorite bassinets! Most Recommended: Halo Bassinet with the Newborn Insert “After experiencing extreme sleep deprivation for almost a year with my first baby, I knew I needed to teach my second baby good sleep habits from birth. I chose the halo bassinet because I could pull it right up to my bedside, the “walls” are mesh so I could see her without having to sit up, and the collapsible side makes those middle of the night feedings easier all while creating a separate sleep environment for […]

I’m awestruck as we round the corner into February; our little valentine is turning one! Though the weeks were sometimes long, year one somehow flew by. I look at Sylvia and think, ‘You’re not my baby anymore!’ Okay, okay, she’s still a baby, but not the teeny, tiny 7lb swaddled peanut she was a year ago. It’s amazing what a year can bring, and nothing highlights the passage of time more clearly than watching your child grow. Kelly from The Greenspring Home graciously invited me to join a talented group of bloggers in a ‘Valentine’s Day at Home’ Blog Tour, and it was perfect timing as I was just starting to scheme on Syl’s 1st birthday party plans. Get scroll-happy here with lots of party prettiness and make sure to read through the 5 planning essentials at the bottom of the post. I used these as my go-to for pulling everything together. Sylvia came into this world just over a week late on February 15th 2017. As she gets older, unless she specifically asks for it, we probably won’t do Valentine’s Day-themed birthday parties as we want her to have her own day that doesn’t get lumped in with V-day […]

It’s my absolute pleasure to share with you the newly completed nursery of brand strategist & the brains behind Luxe + Lillies, Keely Hirschmann. Keely and I first connected through Instagram and bonded over our 1-month-apart due dates + a mutual love for crisp, minimal design. She’s the kind of person, where 5 minutes into meeting her, you feel like you’ve already been friends your entire life. One afternoon over lunch in late December, she showed me an iPhone snap of how her nursery was coming together, and my knee jerk response was to ask if I could share the space on Francois et Moi. I love the minimalist approach Keely took with clean, white walls and furnishings, balanced with natural textures and playful accents. What a lucky baby, wouldn’t you say? I hope you have as much fun as I have exploring the nursery and learning a bit about Keely and her design inspiration for the room! First up, tell us a little bit about your brand-strategy background and blog: Luxe + Lillies? How did you get into brand-strategy? What do you hope readers take away from your site? I started Luxe + Lillies what feels like ages ago […]

Okay guys, you’ve seen the before photos, and now you’re probably wondering what the heck we have planned for this space! Here’s a breakdown of the scope of the project: Address bowing ceiling and ice damage by replacing rotted studs, insulating, and re-drywalling Add bead board substrate to ceiling Create white board and batten paneling around the lower 1/2 of the wall Un-bury original hardwood floors to address water damage // decide if we should refinish them or leave the existing carpet as is. Wallpaper upper half of the wall with playful Scandinavian inspired paper. Update ceiling light fixture. Furnish the room with classic pieces that hopefully can continue to work for us as our family grows You may be looking at the material selections for the room and thinking ‘I thought they said they were having a girl. Where’s the pink?!’ And you did hear right; we are indeed having a girl, but since neither Ken nor I are particularly keen on the color pink, we chose colors and materials that we’re drawn to, while making an effort to bring in girly accents in ways other than with pink. Of course every design starts with lots of visual research, […]

Good Monday Morning! If we’re friends on Instagram, this will probably be old hat news to you, but I thought I’d share here on F&M that Ken and I are expecting a girl in February! Ever since we found out we were expecting, I had been CONVINCED it was going to be a boy. Ken’s immediate family is predominantly boys, and my instincts were telling me that this growing baby was a boy, so you can imagine my surprise when the ultra-sound tech told us with 98% certainty, that we were having a girl. Of course, Ken guessed ‘girl’ right from the start –go figure! When my parents were in town last month we snapped this baby announcement on a windy day in Minneapolis. We had a little trouble getting the balloon to behave, but we had fun with it along the way. Below are a few outtakes! It’s a Girl!Click To Tweet Follow
