I’ve never been much for Pumpkin Spice Latte scents, but give me the ‘fireside’ aroma any day of the year! We all have peeps on our Christmas list that are HARD to buy for. Whether it’s because you only know them professionally, & not personally like teachers and secret santa co-workers, or perhaps your giftee tells you that just being together on Christmas is enough, but you know you can’t actually show up empty handed. When I’m stumped on what to get for someone, I often turn to candles. They’re beautiful, useful, you can make them right in your kitchen. This year, I made up a batch of rosemary + grapefruit candles in little pots I found at Target. And by pots, I mean gold stemless wine glasses–yep! why not?! Keep the Bugs at Bay with DIY Citronella Candles

Summer is in full swing which means the skeeters (that’s Minnesotan talk for mosquitos) are too. Not one to want to load up with bug dope for dinner on the patio, I’ve made up some DIY citronella candles for our outdoor dining area. They’re made with soy wax so the clean-up is easy, and citronella essential oil means no perfum-y chemicals, only naturally extracted goodness! Oh and the pop of color around the glass vessels? Fast and Festive Pumpkin Votives

Yikes. Thanksgiving is in two days! Need a last minute table centerpiece? These fast and festive pumpkin votives will have your table dressed and ready to go in 20 minutes. I started by giving my little pumpkins a coat of spray paint in Montana, Color Petrol. I love Montana spray paints because they’re highly pigmented resulting in good coverage and pure, vibrant coloring. (This is NOT a sponsored post–I’m just sharing my experience as I spray paint a ton over here!) Skip the spray paint step if you’re crunched for time. The pumpkins also look gorge in their natural orange or white coloring!After letting the pumpkins dry, I carved out the spots for the votives and lit ’em up! Fast and easy, folks! Mind Your Beeswax: How to Make Beeswax Tea Lights

Happy Monday! Over the weekend I pulled out the bag of raw beeswax we collected from the honey harvest, cleaned it, melted it down and made some beeswax tea lights out of it. We brought home a pretty blue lantern from Italy earlier this year, and I thought tea lights would be the perfect way to light it up. I’ve been reading up quite a bit lately on how to make beeswax candles and learned a lot of fun factoids along the way. Did you know that beeswax candles, in addition to being non-toxic and clean burning, they also purify your air (!!) by producing negative ions that clean the air of odors and allergens. How cool is that? Beeswax also has an inherently clean and pleasant aroma, so I decided not to add any additional scents to it. I felt it wasn’t necessary, but it sounds like you can add essential oils to the wax once it’s cleaned and melted if you’d like.
