Happy Friday to you! Today I’m sharing a few tips and ideas for putting together a long distance housewarming care package. My sister, Sarah, just wrapped up her PhD in Conservation Ecology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and accepted a post-doc position with the University of South Florida. So last week she packed everything she owned into her Toyota Rav-4, and road-tripped her way down to Tampa Bay. Talk about a big life moment! I so wish I could have flown down to help her set up her new place, but between our trip abroad and our most recent jaunt to Alaska, it just wasn’t in the stars for me, so I put together a care package of things to help her feel at home and sent it down to her. My sister and I are very different creatures. She’s a science nerd and I’m a design nut. And our differences in how we think and who we are is something I really appreciate about our relationship. Since our styles are quite polar, when pulling the care package together, I tried to keep her style in mind, and when in doubt, I stuck to universal home essentials that everyone might find useful–this way I couldn’t go wrong! Here’s […]

I always loved receiving care packages from family when I was in college. Though I touted how much I loved my new found freedom, it was really nice to receive a package every once in a while filled with homemade cookies and other reinforcements I couldn’t quite afford on my collegiate budget. My brother-in-law, Josh, is heading into finals this week, so I thought I’d pull a few things together to help him ace his exams so he can head home for Christmas break! Materials List: Sturdy Cardboard Box with tuck in lid like this one. Decorative Paper. Decorative contact paper could also be used. Heavy Duty Double Sided Tape Ruler Scissors Decorative Ribbon Care Package Goodies Packing Tape Step 1. Cut decorative paper into the appropriate size rectangle to line the inside lid and bottom of your box. Step 2. Generously add double sided tape in a grid pattern to the inside lid and bottom to keep the decorative liner in place. Step 3. Fill with the recipient’s favorites. I included homemade chocolate chip cookies and other snacks and drinks I knew he’d enjoy. (I realize the contents doesn’t win the award for healthiest snacks ever, but it’s a […]
