It’s no secret, ’round these parts, how much I love me an Old Fashioned Cocktail, and gosh darn it! I like spreading the word about them too. I think what I love most about old fashioneds is that they’re a no muss, no fuss cocktail that are a cinch to stir up, so it’s easy to have a craft quality cocktail at home without needing to hire a handlebar mustached mixologist for the night. I think there’s a misconception out there that Old Fashioneds are tricky to make, but I’m here to tell you folks, they’re not! And to prove it, I’ve created a simple little info-graphic and made up cocktail napkins with it ironed on to them. Set these babies out with your Thanksgiving bar cart spread (along with the called for ingredients) and let your guests craft up their own aperitifs. The trick with creating the iron-on transfer napkins is to make sure to use a high quality iron transfer paper, as not all are created equal. I’ve tried a few different brands and found this kind seemed to work best. Head on over to Sugar & Cloth for other sources and the whole tutorial. Follow

Merry Christmas Eve’s Eve! I’m partnering with La Marca Prosecco today to share this easy trick for dressing up prosecco flutes for Holiday gatherings! I love serving prosecco at our gatherings because the bubbles pack the perfect amount of sparkle, making it easily able to stand alone as the main cocktail. No need for to conjure up a complicated aperitif, prosecco dazzles all on its own. And that means less planning for me! I do, however, like to dress up the glasses with a festive and easy gold ombre rim using a flavorless, food safe gold mist. The flutes can be prepared a few days ahead of time, if need be, and then simply filled with bubbly right before guests arrive. Cheers to stress-free entertaining! You’ll Need: Gold Color Mist Food Spray Prosecco Glasses La Marca Prosecco 1. Lightly and quickly spray the rims in a fluid motion with the gold color mist, holding the spray roughly 6″ from the glass. Place the glass upside down on a paper towel to dry, so that any drips run towards the top of the glass onto the paper towel. If the mouth of the glass is wide, you may want to stuff the glass with a paper towel prior to spraying. 2. Top with chilled prosecco and serve! This is a sponsored post intended for an audience over 21. […]

Part two of our homemade bitters extravaganza takes shape in the form of grapefruit lavender bitters. Seriously, what could be better than the combination of these two flavors?! Combining them in the form of a cocktail? Bingo. Grapefruit lavender bitters is essentially 100 proof vodka infused with a melange of zest and herbs to achieve a high flavor potency, and thus only a few drops are needed to add a complex kick of citrus to any cocktail, my most recent fave being the Sparkling Lillet & Grapefruit Cocktail. As with any homemade bitters, the flavor and potency is a matter of taste and preference. Below is where our taste buds lead us, but feel free to experiment to find your perfect ratio. There’s no wrong answers here! Happy weekending. Ingredients: We ordered most of our herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs. Great quality and fast service! zest of 3 grapefruits, removed with a peeler 4-1/4 c 100 proof vodka or Everclear (divided into 2-1/4 c & 2 c) 1 tbsp culinary lavender 1/2 tbsp juniper berries 1/2 tbsp gentian root 3/4 tsp black walnut leaf 1/2 c water 1/2 c sugar Materials: 2 mason jars lots of cheescloth for straining strainer 2oz or 4oz dropper bottles a funnel […]

We had some incredible dining experiences in Positano–fresh seafood and flavors, simple ingredients, heart-warmingly accommodating and friendly people, sea breezes, and candlelight seemed to be on the menu each night for dinner. We ate at quite a few places–it was date night every night!–but these were 2 of my favorites: Il Fornillo . This was our first meal in Positano as it was steps from our villa, and it really set the stage for the fantastic cuisine we were to find in this gem of a town. Serving up traditional Italian dishes in a traditional atmosphere, think of Il Fornillo for delicious fare at a good value (in comparison to restaurants in the town center). Their vine-flourishing trellis on the restaurant’s terrace frames out the beautiful view of the sea, and a trio of musicians serenades guests after dark. The image above was Ken’s plate: Homemade pumpkin blossom ravioli with fresh shellfish. Il Fornillo. Via Pasitea, 266. Next2 . Just might have been the best meal of my life. I know that’s a big statement, but I’m tearing up just thinking about it! Next2 offers creative fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere. We we began our meal with a house recommendation of a delicious orange and apricot martini. Check out the recipe […]

I think it’s safe to say I’ve fallen under the AMC Mad Men spell over the past 6 seasons. I find the 60’s agency antics, the sexual politics, the glamorous fashion, and the intricate story lines cleverly infused with historical events pure genius and incredibly fascinating. However, though I’ve been a Mad Men fan for quite some time, I’m now only beginning to understand the allure of Don Draper’s signature cocktail, The Old-Fashioned. Rye whiskey has never been my spirit of choice, but my interest was peaked a few weeks ago when we were out for our monthly dinner club. My friend, Matt, ordered an old-fashioned, and to my surprise I liked it! The warmth of the rye, the aroma of the orange peel and the sweetness of the muddled cherry made for a delicious combination. We got to chatting with our server and he mentioned how easy it is to make brandied cherries at home, so naturally I wanted to try to make them. To my surprise, you really can’t go wrong with these–if you can measure ingredients, you got this! A fun addition your old-fashioned cocktail, they’ll help channel the inner mad men and women in all of […]
