Turn ‘cabin fever’ into cabin fun with this DIY cardboard summer camp cabin perfect for keeping little ones busy when cooped up inside over Winter! Freezing winter temps and cold + flu season have indoor playtime for little ones at an all-time high right now, and I definitely struggle to find things to keep Sylvie busy without resorting to hours of screen time. When my sister and I were little, my dad would bring home big boxes for us play in, and we thought it was the greatest thing on Earth, keeping us busy for hours and saving my parents’ sanity. Taking a cue from my dad to help stave off cabin fever, I decided to stop over at an appliance store loading dock to ask if, by chance, they had an extra big box they’d let me take off their hands. My thought was to make a vintage-summer-camp-inspired play cabin for Sylvia. I have the most wonderful memories at camp as a kid, and it’s an experience I want for Sylvia as she gets a little older. So why not start now, right? Summer camp conjures up warm feelings of summer fun which is something we could all use […]

Looking for ways to involve your little ones in Halloween decorating? Make these 3D paper spiders which use little hands as the template. Click on over! It wasn’t until my daughter, Sylvia, came along that I really began celebrating Halloween. Becoming a parent has helped me see the cooky, spooky fun through her eyes. Now it’s become a bit of a personal mission to find ways to make it special for our family, especially this year. She’s 2-1/2 and is starting to grasp the concept of dressing up and all the “eerie” things that make up Halloween. I say “eerie” in quotations because, come on. She’s 2, and it’s more about fun than actual fright! BTW, she told me she wants to dress up as a ballerina kitty cat, which I think sounds super doable, so hopefully it sticks until the big night! As I was scheming what I could make with Sylvia to decorate the house, I came up with 3D paper spiders that use toddler fingers (or anyone’s fingers!) as the template. She loves helping me with projects, and I love sharing my love of making things. We went to Tuesday Morning for supplies because I knew they’d […]

I’ve been admiring the fur fashion movement from afar for over year. (Remember my Fur Lusting last year?) Since I’m still lusting now that winter is around the corner, I decided to join the party and add some fur to my life. Enter the oversized faux fur collar–I freaking love the way they can totally change the look of a coat, and instantly make it feel brand new again! The velvet lining not only adds a luxurious touch, but its textured surface also helps keep the collar in place around the neckline. The result? A cozy fur accessory to jump start your winter wardrobe! Materials: 1/2 yard of faux fur 1/2 yard of velvet Permanent marker Scissors Sewing Pins Needle and coordinating thread 1. Hand draw 1/2 “boomerang” shape as shown above on the back side of the faux fur. Use a straight straight vertical line to close off the “boomerang” shape (This will be the fold line.) Step 2. Cut along drawn lines except the straight vertical line. Step 3. Fold the cut out 1/2 “boomerang” on the vertical fold line, and outline the shape with a permanent marker. Step 4. Pull back the cut out portion to reveal the other half of the “boomerang,” and cut […]
