Are there certain colors, textures, habits, etc. you’ve been drawn towards since we turned the corner into September? The nights are cooler, and I’m really starting to embrace the start of the Fall season change. Roasted tomato soup, tweed jackets, rust and ochre hues, and luxe velvets are what I’m especially feeling excited about. This collection of images began as a love letter to the color rust, but I sort of fell in love with mixing in a bit of ochre, black and white, traditional architectural elements, and TEXTURE. Please do share in the comments what you’re loving right now in fashion and interiors. I want to know!

When Kyla of House of Hipsters asked if I wanted to be apart of the No Makeup Home Tour she was hosting, it was an immediate ‘yes’ from me. I feel like it’s easy to only share the pretty shots of our homes online, and for the most part I feel like that’s what people follow along for: inspiration. But only posting those perfectly coifed shots, starts to set an unattainable standard of perfection that’s just not feasible if you have a family, actually live in your home, or are a real, live human person. All this to say, here’s a raw look at my house: dirt, cluttered shelves, baby bottles, and cords in all it’s everyday glory. Eat your heart out! Our home is a duplex. This first image is a shot of our foyer where we split between units. The stairs lead to our tenant’s upstairs apartment and turn left from the foyer and you’ll find yourself at the door to our home on the main level. I don’t often use the word ‘unit’ in relation to our space, as it takes any ounce of homey-ness right out of our home. Sometimes I call it the […]

This time of year I find myself reaching for a blanket almost daily. Whether it’s to curl up with while watching a movie or adding an extra layer to the bed as we go to sleep. So I like to keep extra blankets out and around for easy access, but how do you incorporate them into your home decor so they’re not just in a stack on the floor or draped over furniture? Today I’m sharing some clever ways to incorporate blanket storage into your home decor, so they’re not only easy to grab, but also act as pretty accessories when not in use!

Happy Friday Guys! I’ve decided to relaunch the DIY blanket ladder we made back in 2013, because the original photos were pretty darn horrible and my blog was tiny back then, so I’m pretty sure only my mom and best friend saw the original post. No joke. But the truth is, this fantastic blanket ladder, made from hardware store wood dowels has served us so well over the past 3 years. It’s sturdy, quietly beautiful, stores ALOT of blankets and the wood dowels only cost $34 bucks. Can you see why I wanted to bring the spotlight back to this gem of a project?! The assembly of the frame is easier than it looks, and only took about an hour on a Saturday afternoon. It’s simply a matter of cutting the rods and dowels to the appropriate size and gluing them in place. The finished dimensions are 84″ tall x 25-1/2″ at the top of the ladder x 37-1/2″ at the bottom of the ladder. Make a Blanket Ladder for Your HomeClick To Tweet Materials List: two, 1-1/4″ dia. x 96″ long unfinished closet rods (available at Menards) six, 3/4″ dia. x 48″ long unfinished wood dowels (available at Menards) […]

Have you guys been keeping up with We Make Collective’s DIY Kits? I wanted to share this little clay fabric votive project I did for their Polymer Clay Kit/E-course launch this summer, because these little gems would be SO pretty peppered around a Fall tablescape, and they’re super simple to make. I mean they’re not with out their rolling–lots of rolling out of clay, but that’s kind of a given when it come to clay! Of all things, I used a muffin tin as the mold for the votives, and then added the prettiest gold accent rim to them using a cool gold powder that you can mix with nail polish to create a glaze. The powder came in the We Make Collective kit, and was something I’d never heard of. Now I want to use it on EVERYTHING–it’s that cool! If you missed out on the Polymer Clay Kit, but want to access this tutorial as well as several others, you can still sign up for the polymer e-course HERE. The October Kit is also now for sale and the theme is Macrame, which is so timely because I’ve been seeing macrame EVERYWHERE in interiors lately. I can’t wait […]

Lordy, lordy, what an incredible fall we’ve had here in Minnesota! I swear we had snow on the ground this time last year, so this weather makes me want to drop everything, get outside and savor every waking moment. What better way to enjoy fall than to spring for a picnic?! Pack a cozy blanket, a thermos of steamy spiked cider, a spiced treat, a birding book (available on Amazon or pretty much any garage sale in America) and go enjoy those blazing fall colors.
