I don’t think we’re out of the woods yet with winter weather, as I saw a snowflake on our 5 day forecast, but since yesterday was “technically” the first day of Spring and the farmers markets in Minneapolis open their proverbial doors in less than a month, I’m starting the week with Spring on the brain. And this canvas tote upgrade is a great project to kick things off with. I try (and usually forget) to bring reusable bags to the grocery store, but for some reason I always make sure we have a tote when hittin’ the farmers market, so I don’t have to take plastic bags for each type of produce. If you too like slinging a cute tote à la farmers market, make sure to check out the gilded canvas tote tutorial I created for SheKnows using a craft store canvas bag and some gold paint. Have a great week! Get ready for Farmers Market Season with this easy canvas tote upgrade. Follow

Typically you’ll find me behind the lens, rather than in front of it, but every once in awhile it’s fun to mix up the handmade posts with a lifestyle one here and there. I LOVE making things, but now that the weather is warming up, I just want to get outside and explore Minneapolis. We moved to the North Loop in October last year, just as Winter was also moving in, so I’m excited to explore the Neighborhood in all its warm-weather glory. On Saturday we moseyed over to the Farmer’s Market, so I’m sharing my spring style weekend wear with you guys. I hope you had a fantastic weekend–they always go too fast, don’t they? First and foremost, I’m really digging espadrilles for spring and summer. Often I don’t like ankle ties because they can cut into your ankles, but the ties on these babies (find them here!) are a twill cotton and they’re actually quite comfortable, so they’re great for strolling around the farmer’s market. If your mission is to stock up on fresh, local produce for the week, then a big bag to corral it all is essential. Otherwise, the vendors give you plastic bags for each […]

We picked up a gorgeous bouquet of locally grown flowers at the farmer’s market on Saturday, and they were just too beautiful not to share. I never used to buy flowers for our home because I considered them somewhat of a superfluous expense, but I’ve come to realize that the positive impact they have on my mood is well worth it. Not to mention the color, texture and fragrance they add to our place. These days, I’m definitely on the flower train!

I always think of farmer’s markets as summer activities. Here in Minneapolis, our summer is long gone, so you can imagine the raised eyebrow I gave Ken when he suggested we go to the farmer’s market on a chilly Saturday earlier this month. To my surprise, the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market runs in full force through mid-November, and it’s packed with the freshest fall harvest. Here are some shots from the day: We came home with loads of fresh fall vegetables with the idea of making Barefoot Contessa’s yummy Winter Minnestrone Soup for dinner. This hearty, piping hot soup was the perfect antidote for October’s falling temps.
