Bring something unexpected to the table this year. Floral expert, Molly of Studio Emme, teaches us how to create beautiful, sculptural centerpieces as Thanksgiving table decor! Want to do something modern, fun, and unexpected with your Thanksgiving table decor this year? Learn how to make these sculptural arrangements from my floral design friend and brainchild behind Studio Emme, Molly Yee. These arrangements use a few less flowers than your typical arrangement allowing the iconic blooms (Molly’s term for showstopping, statement flowers) to really shine. Floral frogs placed in small bowls and plates serve as the foundation, and give the impression that the stems defy gravity by standing on end. If you’ve never heard of floral frogs, they’re essentially round metal weights with a series of pins to affix flowers to. Molly’s flower shops, Studio Emme in the Twin Cities carry a great selection of unique iconic blooms like ranunculus, mums, peonies, etc. that grocery stores just don’t have, and you can buy them by the stem, so you don’t need to buy big bunches of several kinds of flowers, especially if you’re only making a few centerpieces. Let’s get down to brass tacks, shall we? Materials: Floral frogs Small bowls […]

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for wall vases. Exhibit A. Exhibit B. I just really freaking love bringing the organic lines of flowers and branches onto the wall, and I keep finding new ways of creating them. So I thought I’d share the latest which includes permanently attaching a picture hanger to the back of a flat-sided vase using a mouldable glue that turns to plastic as it hardens–I mean what will they think of next?! I also used a faux leather wrap to the conceal a chunk of flower foam at the bottom of the vase which helps keep branches somewhat in place. Take your bouquet from the table to the wall with this space-saving hack, and check out more on the vase in our murphy bed guest room reveal! Materials: Small vase with at least one flat side Sugru Mouldable Glue Picture hanger Small piece of leather or faux leather Industrial adhesive Floral foam 1. Roll two mini pea-sized Sugru balls in your hands, place them on either end of your picture hanger and center the hanger on the top back of the flat vase. Flatten the Sugru balls adhering the hanger to the vase and […]

I don’t typically do a ton to decorate our place for Valentine’s Day, but this year in an effort to combat the foggy, grey disposition outside, I decided to create a cheery flower art installation on our living room wall using a combination of fresh and silk flowers. (Silk flowers have come A LONG WAY in recent years–they’re not your Grandmother’s faux flowers!) The glorious invention of decorative washi tape makes this diy’s effort to impact ratio totally worth it. Just adhere the flowers to the wall with washi tape in an overall heart pattern and then pour yourself a glass of wine, because you’re done! Our flower wall functions as festive art in our home, but this project would also be right at home as a photo backdrop for a Valentine’s Day gathering too. Cruise on over to Homedit.com for the full project just in time for V-day!

I had an overwhelming urge this weekend to embrace Spring at home (though things had cooled off again), it didn’t matter. We had a dose last week of the warm weather to come, and I wanted to keep the spring fever going. From sparkling grapefruit soda to deep cleaning to fresh flowers, we did our best to cultivate our own spring at home. I picked up a few bunches of flowers, placed them around our place, and created a wall-hung vase for our bedroom using a thrifted round vase ( $.99 at Goodwill!) and a wall bracket. It came together super easily and makes for a simple, spring focal point (that smells amazing!) in our bedroom. Materials List: 5″ – 6″ round glass vase (thrifted) 1 D-Ring picture hanger Gorilla Glue Flowers Nail + Hammer Step 1. Prep the vase: Moisten the area on the glass vase with a wet papertowel where the bracket hanger is to be adhered. (Gorilla glue cures best with moisture.) Step 2: Adhere the bracket part of the hanger to the vase roughly an inch down from the opening of the vase. Apply glue to the bracket and press firmly onto the vase. Step 3. Prop the vase up on it’s […]

Ken gave me a beautiful bouquet of tulips for Valentine’s Day, and I couldn’t help but take some pictures of them as they began to open up over the weekend. Life can be so crazy busy, but photographing these gorgeous tulips from every angle got me thinking about how important it is to appreciate the little things in life. I hope you enjoy!
