I love checking out new food establishments–although now that I’ve said it out loud (on here), this statement seems like a pretty obvious one; I mean who doesn’t? From farm to table start-ups to food trucks to sweet locally owned bakeries, us Minneapolites are pretty lucky to have such a burgeoning food scene on our hands. It seems like we hear of a new place opening almost monthly, and I’m always excited to go check each one out. Most recently, bakery/coffeeshop, Honey and Rye Bakehouse, started by two Minnesotan women, opened it’s doors in our neighborhood, so my hubby and I stopped over on Sunday morning to see what they’re all about. We were greeted with a friendly smile by one of the owners as we arrived, and I’m pretty sure I let out a squeal of delight when I saw the cake stand loaded with buttery croissants before me. They also had a gorgeous array of fresh-from-the-oven cinnamon rolls, muffins, quiches, cookies, and artisanal breads made with locally sourced ingredients. Ken chose the cinnamon roll and we both swooned as we discovered the icing was actually more of a whipped cream cheese frosting–yum! This sweet, bustling cafe was furnished in a vintage-modern, […]

My friend Sarah had a fantastic idea this Spring of starting a monthly dinner club with a few close friends. The concept being, we get together once a month and check out a new restaurant in Minneapolis. It’s a great excuse to put everything aside for a few hours to enjoy good company and all that Minneapolis’ ever evolving food scene has to offer. It’s also a great excuse to go all out when it comes to the dining extras–things we don’t always spring for–interesting cocktails, 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes 4th courses, and let’s not forget dessert. Here’s where we been so far: Wise Acre Smack Shack The Union Rooftop Pizzeria Lola Heidi’s Burrough The Bachelor Farmer With busy schedules, it can be difficult to find a night that works for everyone so we make sure to choose the next month’s date and location and book a reservation via Open Table right then during dinner. This way it’s booked a month in advance before schedules fill up. Any recommendations for where we should try next month?

Good friends. Tasty brew. And a warm fire on a chilly fall night. These were the elements that inspired our ‘Brew on the Roof’ party that we hosted earlier this month. Here’s how it worked: We invited a bunch of friends up on our rooftop for beer flights and asked them to bring a batch of their latest home brew or simply their favorite brewski to share. We strung bistro lights, pulled out the fire pit from our wedding and loaded the rooftop with fall flora and candles to set the ambiance. Instead of purchasing several beer flight paddles, (which would have been quite expensive) we made our own! As the week unfolds, I’ll post the flight paddle step-by-step tutorial along with a few others as part of my Brew Party Series.
