Handmade indigo textiles for home interiors are trending at the moment, but they’ve always been a favorite of mine, and I’ll probably continue loving them long after their time in the spotlight. There’s just something about that rich blue that I can’t get enough of! I recently created a batik tutorial for We Make Collective on how to use the batik resist dye process to mimic the look of indigo mudcloth on lightweight cotton. The result is gorgeous patterned indigo fabric perfect for wall hangings, bedscarves, and pillows. If you’re a We Make Collective member, head over to check out the batik tutorial + tons of resources for indigo and other naturally derived dyes. If you’re not a member, I’m hoping to share additional indigo dyeing projects and tips right here on Francois et Moi very soon, so stay tuned! In the meantime, if you want to get started right away, check out my Indigo Tea Towel project. It was one of the first DIY’s I wrote about on F&M and it’s still one of my favorites! Notice they’re hanging in the background of my new sidebar photo? I use them ALL the time! How to Make Batik Indigo Mudcloth […]

Do you ever get a wild hair to create with a certain technique or medium? That’s totally me right now with fabric. I seriously want to jump right into every project I see. I recently came across sunprint fabric, which is the technique of (you guessed it!) using the sun to print on fabric typically resulting in a rich blue & white surface design. And truthfully, all I hear is ‘blue and white fabric,’ and I’m sold! As we move into the season of longer days, I can’t wait to try out this technique. How luxe are those velvet botanical pillows? I hope you too are feeling inspired by a certain something right now, or maybe find some inspiration with sunprint fabric. Either way, enjoy that weekend!

Is your place in need of a little refresh for Spring? It’s around this time of year, I start to catch a case of cabin fever. Old Man Winter, you need to wrap this up! So I’ll instinctively start packing up the heavy blankets, moving things around and tackling new home projects to help refresh my surroundings. I think my rearranging our furniture drives Ken a little crazy, but it’s just something I’ve got to do this time of year! It may only be February, but us Northerners spend so much time indoors from October to March, I think the Spring conversion process starts a bit earlier up here out of survival. It’s how we keep our sanity! If you’re in need of a home refresher too, why not move in some plants, hang garland or organize your magazines? Check out the fantastic round-up below! Copper Himmeli Table | Wood Bead Garland | X-Shaped Magazine Rack | Easy Planter Upgrades | Wall Mounted Air Plants Give Your Home a Spring Decor Refresh with These DIY Projects Find more in the DIY du Jour series here!
