Ken and I recently saw a couple at the grocery store with their shopping list clipped to a mini clipboard, checking off items and making notes on the list as they made their way through the store, and as they rolled their cart past ours, Ken and I had a collective moment of thinking, ‘What a great idea!’ We’re either fumbling with a folded crumpled paper list or using a list made on our iPhones–which I have mistakenly deleted (more than once) 1/2 way through the shopping trip. Crikey! So I decided to whip up a few fun, clipboards (house-shaped, of course!) for our next grocery trip and for around the house. Not only are these great for grocery shopping, but also perfect for anyone taking a class this Fall that’s outside the classroom. Make a pretty clipboard for yourself with the tutorial over at Homedit! Follow

Hello there and happy Friday! It’s another Homedit tutorial here on Francois et Moi today where we’ve created a striking set of X-shaped modern coasters from balsa wood and a little paint. These playful numbers were inspired by a beautiful set of brass originals. But instead of working with metal, we used a malleable wood for a quick and easy fabrication. (You can actually cut balsa wood with a scissors!) I love the graphic, minimal design, and the way they sort of make you re-think what a coaster needs to look like in order to support your glass or hot pot. Use them individually, or group them together for a trivet effect. Get all the how-to details over at Homedit! And check out more of my Homedit tutorials right here.

I love tying up gifts with ribbon bows, because I think they add such a pretty touch to even the smallest or simplest gifts, and effortlessly make last minute presents seem thought out and pulled together. Sometimes you just need to put a bow on it! There are 3 bows in particular that I use all the time for birthdays, Christmas, and just because, and I’ve created tutorials for each of those bows over at Homedit. Give them a tie and let me know which is your fave! Tag on Instagram with #francoisetmoi . For more of my Homedit projects, go here. Happy Wednesday!!!

Homedit recently asked me to create a simple soap dispenser tutorial for them using a Mason jar, and of course I was up to the challenge! We are canning folk here in the Francois camp, so Mason jars are always close at hand in our kitchen. I love the look of vintage milkglass, and thus I gave the jar a quick coat of lacquer white, added a nostalgic oil-can pump and called it a day. Check out the full tutorial at Homedit!

Friday, glorious Friday, I’m so glad you’re here! After being out of town the past 4 weekends, I’m really looking forward to playing catch up on a few projects at home that have taken the back seat to, well, life. It’s safe to say the weekend can’t get here fast enough. Anyone else feel the same? If you’re looking for some weekend reading (or crafting) material, I have a new DIY tutorial, an origami hanging lamp made from wallpaper, up over at Homedit. Head over yonder for the tutorial, and have a great weekend!

I received a menagerie of air plants for Christmas last month, so naturally I was excited to find a fun way to display them. Air plants don’t require soil, so they call for a more creative home than simply a planter on the window sill. Thus I came up with this minimal, yet sculptural stand made from pre-made wood blocks and some floral wire. I love the height the stand provides, as well as the slight palm tree resemblance–oh-so timely for the middle of January! Check out the easy peasy tutorial over at Homedit.com! For more of my Homedit projects, go here.

Growing up in Duluth, Minnesota, my parents had an ornately carved wooden star lantern that they’d hang in our big dining room window around the Holidays, as a nod to our Scandinavian heritage. Now that my husband and I are starting our own Holiday traditions, I’d been coveting a similar star for our home. The trouble is, hand-carved wooden star lanterns like the one my parents have run with a big price tag, so I re-created the look and general function of the star lantern out of paper. And I kind of love the way it turned out, so this little love might become more of a winter tradition at our home, rather than a strictly Holiday one. Head on over to Homedit for the full “how-to”.
