Woohoo! Today is the long awaited day! Our collection of hand-crafted indigo-dyed & block printed tea towels are now for sale right here at SHOP FRANCOIS, just in time for Mother’s Day! (Order by 2pm CST today, and we’ll make sure it gets to you–or your mama–by this Friday!) We’re starting with tea towels in the shop and will expand into pillows, throws and other soft goods as Spring and Summer progress! To kick things off, we’re hosting an Instagram giveaway tonight at 7pm CST! Winner will get to choose ANY tea towel from the shop. Eek–I’m excited just writing about it! New Shop & Site Design Coming May 3rd!

Hello Weekenders! I have two crazy exciting announcements that I’ve been bursting at the seams to share! Seriously, today is a good day, because I am horrible at holding these things in! First and Foremost: Launching Tuesday, May 3, is SHOP FRANCOIS! My collection of hand-dyed indigo & block printed tea towels will be for sale right here on Francois et Moi, just in time for Mother’s Day. We’re starting with the tea towels and will expand into pillows and throws as Spring and Summer progress! The 2nd big change, along with the shop launch, comes a new site design! The site format will be similar (still easy to navigate), but more streamlined, and a prettier version of its current self! #makeover! Swing by on May 3rd to check out the action. Batik Indigo Mudcloth DIY

Handmade indigo textiles for home interiors are trending at the moment, but they’ve always been a favorite of mine, and I’ll probably continue loving them long after their time in the spotlight. There’s just something about that rich blue that I can’t get enough of! I recently created a batik tutorial for We Make Collective on how to use the batik resist dye process to mimic the look of indigo mudcloth on lightweight cotton. The result is gorgeous patterned indigo fabric perfect for wall hangings, bedscarves, and pillows. Indigo Tea Towels

When the Holiday party season takes full swing, I’m typically scrambling for thoughtful hostess gifts -something a little more creative than a bottle of wine. In all seriousness, a nice red tied with a bow is usually what I end up with, as it’s just so easy. This year though, I’m trying to think ahead. Since fun tea towels are something we don’t often buy for ourselves (but are so nice to have around), I’m thinking these little numbers might just do the trick! Materials: Indigo Dye Kit (Indigo Dye, Reducing Agent, Rubber Gloves, Rubber Bands, Wood Blocks) Flour Sack Cotton Tea Towels 5 Gallon Bucket Plastic Tarp or something to protect the ground below A Stir Stick long enough to reach the bottom of the bucket. I used a wood paint stick. It was just long enough, but I’d recommend a longer one if you have one. A String and Clothespins to hang your drying tea towels. Step 1: Setup your work area. Lay the plastic tarp down and string your clothesline. It’s best to do this outside. I set everything up on our apartment balcony.
