A true chandelier redux! Tips for taking an old, thrifted light fixture, and reimagining it as a classically gilded chandelier in this easy 2 hour project. We’re coming up on 5 years in this house, and I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve never 100% settled into our bedroom. It’s one of those tricky rooms I haven’t quite known what to do with. This Spring we started going back-to-basics in here, painting the walls white, introducing some new-to-us thrifted pieces, and swapping things from around the house to see what sticks, as a way to rethink this room on a budget. Browsing around FB Marketplace one weekend afternoon, I scrolled upon a lime green, leafy, crystal chandelier for a steal. Albeit, it was lime green, I quite liked the French-style metal leaves and the dripping crystals, and I knew it’d be a beautiful replacement for the non-descript (almost disappearing!) flushmount currently in the room. Besides, changing the chandelier’s paint color would be an easy 2 hour project! I turned to Rust-Oleum® Universal® Metallic Pure Gold to achieve the gilded look and Rust-Oleum® Universal® Matte French Cream , a soft warm white, to differentiate the faux candlesticks from the gold fixture.

Explore the pleated lampshade trend reinterpreted with modern stylings for 2020. Plus, learn where to find pleated lampshades in this day and age! Back in the early 90’s, parents had pleated lampshades in their living room, and as most kids do, I swore off every trend my parents liked as a mild statement of teenage individuality. But as all trends eventually do, we’re seeing a resurgence of empire (tapered) pleated lampshades in home decor, and this time around I’m digging it. It’s been a slow conversion over the last 6 months I credit to falling in love with textural pieces with references to pleating like this cb2 vase and incorporating these handmade paper bag stars in our home for winter that helped turn the tides toward ‘the pleat.’ Plus, drum shades have had quite a run— 12 years and counting. I’m ready to experiment with another look! The beauty of lampshades is that you don’t have to go out and buy a whole new lamp in order to update the look of your lighting. Just invest in a new shade. I found this tapered shade at a thrift store, and to be fair it was covered with dust and a […]

Good morning! I’m excited to announce that I’ve launched my first DIY class on Skillshare! A major goal of mine this Summer & Fall was to start creating DIY video content, in addition to my standard photo tutorials, as an another way to share home DIY knowledge. So here I am today with my first class: DIY Lighting: How to Build a Brass Wall Sconce! It’s a quick 10-minute class that walks you through the basics of building brass tube lighting for less than 1/2 the cost of name brand retailers and also includes the EXACT source links for where to find all the materials. If you’re interested in learning the basics of building lighting, I’d love if you’d hop over to my class, enroll, and help me gain some traction as a new teacher on Skillshare! The best part is that the class is FREE for the first 25 peeps to sign up!! My goal is to fill those 25 FREE spots by next Thursday. No worries if you can’t take the class right away, just enroll now and watch later! Here’s the FREE enrollment link: http://skl.sh/2cYixrV Thank you so much for your support, and I hope you enjoy […]

Something I really wanted in our new place was a pair of sconces flanking our bed. Not only do I love their minimalist look, but they also don’t take up space on the nightstand. And when living in a small space every. inch. counts. There are several stunning options out there…and not a one of them fit our budget, so I took to Pinterest to figure out if there was a way I could make the sconces I was envisioning, but for less cash money. Finding inspiration in DIY sconces from Vintage Revival and Poppytalk, I used the accordion arm from Ikea’s Frack Mirror in combination with the lamp head from Target’s Wood Pole Scholar Desk Lamp (Just wait ’till you see what I have in mind for the base from this lamp–stay tuned!) And then I painted everything gold. Because, well, I heart gold. The best part? Each sconce came together for right around $20 bucks! Materials List: Ikea Frack Accordion Mirror – Use the accordion arm only. Target Stick Table Lamp – Loosen the screw on the lamp head to slide it off the wood pole base. Metallic gold spray paint Painter’s tape Plastic bag Drop cloth 5″ of elastic (1″ to 1-1/2″ thick) Gorilla Glue (Gorilla Glue expands as it dries, […]
