Happy Easter Weekend! When I was at the thrift store a last month, I came across a vintage china set being sold off piece by piece. Though the set was pretty picked over, they still had a coordinating dinner plate, salad plate and dessert plate, and as I stacked them up, I got the idea for this tiered plate stand–an elegant and budget-friendly way to serve treats at Spring gatherings. Check out the tutorial on how to make one for yourself over at Homedit! For more of my Homedit projects, go here! Hope it’s a great weekend!

All the research I’ve been doing for the Paris portion of our upcoming trip has really gotten me in a Parisian state of mind, so on Saturday afternoon I threw Amelie on in the background and whipped up a batch of macarons. I found inspiration in Thirsty for Tea’s Vanilla Bean Chai Macarons recipe and incorporated their key flavor ingredients (chai mix and cinnamon) into Jill Colonna’s Vanilla Macaron Recipe from her book Mad About Macarons. If you’re thinking of learning how to make macarons, I highly recommend picking up a copy. Her method is super easy to follow and produces beautiful and delicious macarons! Check back tomorrow for helpful macaron-making hints I’ve picked up along the way. Ingredients: Shells: 150g egg whites (preferably separated and aged 4 days) 100g superfine baker’s sugar (available at Byerly’s) 180g almond flour 270g powdered sugar 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (with seeds) Vanilla Custard Filling: 100g unsalted butter softened 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tbsp chai latte powder mix 160g or 5fl whole milk 1 whole vanilla bean 1 egg 20g superfine baker’s sugar 20g cornflour small splash vanilla extract Special Equipment: digital scale (it’s important that measurements are exact) electric mixer 12″ to 16″ […]

Ken and I are heading abroad in May, and the details of our trip are slowly starting to come together, so I thought I’d share what we’ve got in the lineup so far for Paris, the first stop on our journey… First things first, we’ve rented a flat on the Île Saint-Louis, a self-contained, atmospheric island on the River Seine. We chose to stay in a flat in a discreet neighborhood, as opposed to a hotel because we want the experience of feeling less like a tourist and more like a local. The flat is adjacent to the island’s mainstreet with quaint restaurants, art galleries, and shops selling everything from cheese to silk scarves, and the island’s central location should be a great home base for zipping around the city. The image above is the street view from our place. Notice the Seine? Metro Stop: Cité Paris’ bike rental scheme, Velib, was implemented in 2007 about a year after my last visit to Paris, so it’s something I look forward to doing this time around. Ken and I both love to bike, and it sounds like it will be a great way to get from point A to point B without missing anything […]
