‘Tis that time of year when we’re busy making resolutions for the new year in an effort to make 2017 the best one yet. Did you guys make any goals? One of the things I really want to accomplish is being more present and less plugged into my iPhone. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a blogger, so emailing, Instagramming, Pinteresting, & Tweeting very much come with the territory. But with our first baby arriving in weeks, I want to make sure I can find a manageable balance between the two. It’s a goal that’s been on my mind for awhile now, and last Fall I DIY’ed this easy notebook cover to remind myself of it every day. It’s one of those projects (my favorite kind) where if you can source awesome materials up front, then the end result ends up being cool without much effort on your end. I chose “pay attention” as my cover phrase, but any phrase where the total number of letters is a multiple of 3 will work. I love New Years. Not because I like to dress up and sip cocktails with friends–although you may have gathered from my last post that I enjoy that piece of it too–I like New Years because to me its a symbol of new beginnings. It’s the start of a brand new year, with new possibilities, wishes, adventures and challenges. It’s a blank book just waiting for you to write the chapters, and I find that so gosh-darn exciting! At the end of our wedding day, a year and a half ago, we lit off (biodegradable) sky lanterns over Lake Superior as a symbol of happy wishes and new beginnings. I still remember what I wished for that night as Ken and I lifted our lantern off into the air together. It was a simple, but meaningful wish, and one that’s tied to the beautiful memory of watching the lanterns float up and away into the sky. Tonight as the ball drops at midnight and we say hello to 2014, I’ll be sending off a proverbial sky lantern packed with healthy, happy, and inspired wishes for all that’s to come in this fresh New Year. New Years Eve Dreaming

Last year, Ken and I threw a big New Years Bash with lots of balloons, silly hats and the quintessential NYE noise makers. This year, we’re looking forward to a much more low key evening: a night à la maison with another couple, Cards Against Humanity, and a little champagne to go around. Though we’re taking it easy this year, there’s no harm in doing a little dreaming as to what I would do if we were to host a party, is there?
