Arguably, it’s that time of year when blankets get the ol’ heave-ho into storage, but I do like to keep a few at close reach in warmer months for after dark on the patio and such. This small-space blanket holder is made of wood and clay beads and is great for storing + displaying blankets without taking up much, if any, floor space. If you’ve ever strung beads into a necklace or bracelet as a kid, then you’ve got more than enough experience to tackle this little project. Originally, I was going to have the entire string be wood beads, but I didn’t have enough so I made some oversized beads out of clay and baked them solid. Then I strung an array of clay and wooden beads in a (more or less) random pattern onto heavy cording and tied the two ends together forming a giant loop of beads. From there, I hung the loop asymmetrically on two nails on the wall, and draped my blankets. If you’re interested in my FULL TUTORIAL, come check it out over at Sugar & Cloth! (I’m a monthly contributor over there!) Looking for a larger blanket storage project. Check out our DIY […]

On the coattails of yesterday’s big reveal, I wanted to breakdown what specific pieces we used to achieve the overall look. There were a few accessories that I DIY’ed myself, like the pink floor mirror, Ikat lumbar pillow, message board and indigo-dyed shams, but most everything else is shoppable. I also tried really hard only to include links to the EXACT accessories you see in the reveal. The only exceptions to this are a few of the DIY’ed pieces and the insanely gorgeous, one of a kind vintage rug from Woven Abode. In this case, I linked to the most similar rug available. Where to Find Everything: A. Murphy Bed | B. Tall Shelf | C. Gold Vase | D. Alarm Clock | E. Woven Basket | F.

As owners of a Duplex home, it’s safe to say we have a healthy number of keys to manage. Not only are we looking after our own home and car keys but the duplex’s exterior door key, our tenant’s spare keys, etc. Without a designated drop spot for them when you walk in the front door, our keys often end up in scattered, hard to find places throughout the home. And it makes for a frantic struggle when you need to dash out the door in a hurry. So when Dremel challenged me to share a small space solution as part of their month-long August Maker Days (more on this in a bit!), it was a no-brainer which area to tackle. Key Storage in the Entry. Because our entry is a small space, I knew the key holder had to be wall mounted, and I found inspiration in this only-sold-in-Danish-stores key holder. Normally making a wall-mounted key holder with key chain slots & recessed keyhole hangers would require 3 big-daddy tools: belt sander, mitre saw and router, but instead I’m simplifying things and using the Dremel 8050 Micro, a handheld rotary tool that satisfies all 3 tool needs in one. (It’s […]

Hello and Happy Monday! I apologize for the radio silence this past week. Things have been absolutely car-eh-zay over here. Lots of changes. In addition to Ken and I moving to a new place, Francois et Moi also moved…over to a self-hosted WordPress.org site that is! You might notice a few tweaks to the site design which hopefully make it easier to browse more content on the homepage with one swift scroll of the mouse. WordPress.com was a fantastic and user-friendly blogger’s jumping off point, but it was limiting in many ways, so I’m pumped to be able to stretch my little blogger legs and introduce different types of posts and additional plugins on to Francois et Moi. And also be ad-free for awhile. Eeek! So exciting. As for our physical address, we’re not totally settled, i.e. we still need art on the walls, but here are a few shots of our new place. More wide angle shots and bedroom images will follow as soon as the last of the boxes have been cleared (moving is a freaking lot of work!). Check back on Wednesday as I’ll be sharing the DIY process behind how I made our new, danish inspired coffee table. Have a great start to the […]

Happy Monday! Ken and I are counting down the days until we move into our new place in the North Loop, and of course my mind is running wild placing furniture, brainstorming ideas on how to maximize the square footage (we’re downsizing slightly), and styling our new digs in a way that makes it feel like home. I’ve compiled a few ideas that have caught my eye: some are high end (dream on), others are surprisingly affordable, but all are swoon-worthy! a. Paper Message Center | b. Small Space Hallway Console | c. Metal Barstools | d. Wall-to-wall Bookshelves | e. Sheepskin | f. Mulberry Wall Art | g. Bedside Sconce | h. Mid-century Desk
