Ken and I recently took a little babymoon to Boston and Nantucket in early October. While we were there I was lugging my camera from place to place either carrying it by hand (so it was convenient to snap a photo) or in my saddle purse, and I came to the realization that I needed a camera strap. Badly. Why the heck had I never gotten one?! They make life so much easier, whether I’m on a trip or at home snapping photos for a blog post. So when we got home, I set out to make one. The original idea was to use vintage ribbon, but while at the craft store, I came across this glam faux leather strap trim that practically jumped off the shelf and said “pick me instead!” Okay maybe that last part didn’t exactly happen, but it was the perfect material for a camera strap so I went that direction instead. If you’re also in need of a camera strap or have a photographer/blogger/travel-obsessed friend on your Holiday list, this glam camera strap tutorial is calling your name. Hop over to Sugar and Cloth for the full tutorial! And don’t forget to pin this project […]

Despite concerted efforts at cultivating a green thumb, I’ve never quite been able to unlock the mystery of houseplants. So thank goodness I married a man with an innate (rugged, but nurturing) ability to keep plants green. Though I may not get a gold star in raising plants, I do quite love scheming up cool ways to house the plants my husband grows. Most recently, I DIY’ed a mid mod planter for a mini-palm that was sitting homeless in our living room. And it was as simple as stacking two Target bowls on top of one another (and adhering them together of course!). I LOVE this planter for it’s Mid Century simplicity, and the modern platform it creates for the mini palm! The two bowls I used were this one & this one . Hop over to Sugar & Cloth for the full tutorial! And don’t forget to pin this project for later! Dig this DIY and want more?

With our guest room taking on a new roll as the nursery, Ken and I have been busy adding guest room functionality to my blog room. It’s like musical rooms around here right now: a little chaotic, but mostly just fun. The blog/guest room transformation will be revealed next month, but in the meantime, I wanted to share this little plate clock DIY I created for the space. It’s made from a Suite One Studio dessert plate (Love her work so much I decided to hang it on the wall!) and the premise of the project is pretty much just attaching a clock mechanism to the plate. Believe me you got this! As you guys have probably heard me say before, the trick to DIY-ing isn’t having the best knowledge or skills (I mostly learn along the way), it’s more about picking inherently cool materials from the start so minimal effort is needed along the way in order to end up with a cool piece in the end. Hop on over to Sugar & Cloth for the tutorial on how to make this time-telling gem! Follow

The Easiest DIY Pillows EVER: No-Sew Envelope Pillows Made from Napkins

Today, I’ve got the EASIEST way to create throw pillows for your place. Don’t own a sewing machine? No problem! There’s not a stitch of sewing involved, nor really is there much cutting either. You see, they’re made using pre-made fabric napkins, which makes working up these no-sew envelope pillows a snap. If you can cut on a folded line, line up fabrics, and do some basic ironing, you’ve got this! The pillow’s moody floral pattern I spotted at Anthropologie (in the form of a napkin!) was love at first sight, and I thought it’d be a good transitional pattern as we move into Fall. The pillow backings are plain, affordable navy napkins from World Market, and the tutorial is one of my contributor pieces for Sugar & Cloth this month, so head on over for the full know-how! Check out all my Sugar & Cloth tutorials here!
