I’ve been playing around with geometric metal shapes that I found on Etsy recently, and rather than making some kind of statement jewelry with them, I decided to make something pretty for my walls. I came up with this cool brass + cotton flossing wall hanging. A little bit boho and a little bit modern, it pairs beautifully with a mixed art grouping or on its own in a small nook area, and it’s one of my favorite things I’ve made in a while. Check out the full DIY tutorial I did for Sugar & Cloth! Into this post? Share the love! How to Make a Geometric Metal Wall HangingClick To Tweet Follow

Though I’m not exactly a boho style girl through and through, I am inspired by certain elements, like the easy, laid back, seemingly effortless style that is quintessential “bohemian.” Lately on Pinterest, I’ve been noticing walls draped in fabric and decided to put my own spin on the trend in the form of a fabric flag, which introduces the drapey fabric idea, but in a more creative, quirky, and perhaps a bit Frenchier way, as opposed to straight up boho. In case you’re looking to give your walls an update for Spring, my tutorial on how to make this baby is up over at Sugar & Cloth! Into this project?!

Ah, behold the latent design power of the throw pillow. AKA soft little squares (or in this case, circles) of goodness that can single-handedly change the feeling or direction of a room, spark conversation, or soften an otherwise uninviting chair or nook. Yes folks, they’re magic when it comes to interior decor which is why they’re the easy answer to updating your space just enough to cure the restless, “I’m sick of my house” cabin fever that inevitably sets in this time of year. And if ever there were a pillow up to the task of stealing the spotlight and diverting attention away from the rest of your home, its this little wool beaded trim pillow you can make in an afternoon. Now if you’re really feeling adventurous, you can make your own felt beads, but I picked mine up here because, TIME. The rest of the materials I found at the fabric/craft store.

We’re well into November which for me means (happily) starting to prepare for the Holiday shenanigans of Thanksgiving and Christmas. The cheese plate is probably my most favorite element when it comes to entertaining. Mostly because it’s so freaking easy and looks like a million bucks. We’re hosting Christmas this year for the first time at our new house. Yay! So I decided to make a new set of DIY cheese tools to serve with the spread. I’m kind of loving malachite right now, so the idea for the handles were inspired by the stone (which is thought to guard against negative energy). However, as the design process worked itself out, the handles ended up being a bit bluer in color which seemed to work better with the cheese plate elements in the photos. It’s fun to look back once the project is complete to see how an initial idea has transformed to take on new life. Anyone else feel that way too? The handles are created from simple hardwood blocks manipulated with a saw and belt sander to resemble gem stones. Find all my sources and the entire project with Ashley over at Sugar & Cloth!

The carefree days of summer are fleeting and for many that means school is quickly approaching. ‘Back to School’ was always a bittersweet time. Was it for anyone else as well? In many ways it meant new beginnings and exciting challenges and experiences, but ‘Back to School’ also meant a structured, busy schedule and the segway into Minnesota’s seven month Winter season (which after a beautiful, carefree summer, is a hard reality to face!) Pretty school supplies, however, seemed to make the transition just a little easier and that heavy course load a bit more manageable. If you too love pretty supplies, why not make yourself a desktop organizer in which to display it all, and bonus! It’ll keep your desk tidy too! Pop over to Sugar & Cloth for the desk organizer’s full tutorial. And happy back-to-schooling to you and yours! Follow

I recently signed on to contribute for Sugar & Cloth–one of my all time favorite DIY blogs! Ashley, the creative genius behind S&C, is a fountain of inspiration with impeccable style, so naturally I was thrilled to be apart of her contributor network! My first project is an easy, no-sew flamingo pillow. I’m bananas for flamingos this summer and wanted to bring a little tropical coral action into the home. The pillow design is created with a printable iron-on transfer so if you have a printer and an iron–you got this! Pop over to Sugar & Cloth for more on the project breakdown! Follow

Truth be told, Ken and I are a couple of homebodies at heart, but the moment summer hits, our weekend calendar seems to fill up like the apocalypse is imminent and we’ve got to squeeze everything summer related in before September 1st! It might be a cold climate thing, but here in Minnesota we’re just so darn excited boot season is over and the hot summer sun has come out to play that we can’t help but make plans! Whether you’re hosting friends or planning a barbeque picnic at the park, here’s a fun spread of summer-happy diys to help you make the most of this glorious season! Take a cue from Clo by Clau, and next time you’re serving up pineapple, be strategic with your cuts and use the shell as a Vase! I so love these Pattern Kimonos from Sugar & Cloth as a pool or lakeside cover up! Keep everyone hydrated and look like a pro while doing it with this Citrus Coconut Soda garnished with citrus slices via Le Zoe Musings. Hit the picnic scene with a graphic embroidered blanket to relax on brought to you by Lovely Indeed! While it’s steamy outside, stay cool with an Ice Cream Social! Via designlovefest
