Whenever we’re in Duluth, we always make a point of stopping into Fitger’s Brewhouse for their Harvest Moon Wild Rice Burgers. They are the absolute BEST! Since we live a little too far to swing in whenever the craving strikes, we were so excited to find Heavy Table‘s take on how to make them. These babies are so yummy; my typically carnivorous husband will even crave them for dinner.
Instead of full size burgers, we often make them as sliders which offer smaller portions and also makes them a bit more manageable on the skillet. We follow Heavy Table’s recipe almost exactly (which I now have memorized because we make them so often) except to make the sliders we pack the wild rice mixture into a 1/4 measuring cup and turn it over right onto the greased pan, pressing down slightly with the back of the measuring cup to flatten. We’ve found with smaller patties there’s no need to form them ahead of time, as the recipe suggests for the larger patties.
Our other modifications have to do with trimmings. Since the patties already contain cheddar cheese, we usually skip the cheese slice on top unless we’re feeling adventurous, and we usually go for tzatziki in lieu of garlic mayo.
